I read this article on my way home from work on Friday. Those of you not based on London, wouldn’t have had the chance to read the article, so I was desperate to write about it.

When reading my paper to or from work, I rarely read articles all the way through. This article was different though. It was such a delightful and articulate mauling of the ‘Worst Movie Ever Made’ that I just had to read it from start to finish!

Essentially it says that the new movie (starring Sarah Michelle Gellar, Justin Timberlake, Sean William Scott, and Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson) is rather diabolical, but charts its directors attempts to remedy the situation.

They chart the saga of ‘Donnie Darko’ director, Richard Kelly, and the movie getting laughed out of Cannes, up to where the film is now.

They end up saying that despite the long-winded and rather valiant three years or so trying to fix the movie, they still hate it!

TheLondonPaper (aka my new best friends) rip the film new one here.

Hilarious (if mixed) reviews, such as this, can be found here.

Spending $12 and 2½ hours (30 minutes less than the Cannes cut) on something as aggressively bad as Southland Tales is not something I can recommend with a clear conscience.

The trailer, and examples of a script with gems like ‘Scientists are saying the future is going to be far more futuristic than they originally predicted’ is shown below.
