People Stealing My Content – Blah Blah Blah
March 8, 2008 by iamthelostgirl
My site is chugging along nicely, but there is one little issue that, frankly, I should have picked up on sooner. I write rather a lot, and I noticed that the Google ‘Incoming Links’ were flooding in thick and fast.
I checked yesterday, and there are innumerable websites stealin’ my content and it is blinkin’ well gettin’ on my nerves (enough that I temporarily forgot how to use the letter ‘G’).
In a (probably) futile attempt to tackle this, this I am going to make a slight change in the way that I format my posts. Essentially, the way I lay out posts/ write will remain the same – but I will now add links to my homepage, at the beginning, and end of each post. Shame I didn’t think of this 600 posts earlier!
For example:

Please let me know if you are reading this post ANYWHERE other than http://iamthelostgirl.wordpress.com. I, TheLostGirl, have NOT given permission for my post to be reproduced elsewhere. Anyone else who has this post up has likely pilfered it - cheeky bugger! You deserve better than stolen content. Read the real blog at my site – accept no imitators.
UPDATE 10 MAR 2008 - HOORAY! It worked. There was one website in particular that seemed to be set up to automatically steal entire posts of mine (including personal posts); said website has now removed at least 5 of my posts (including the personal one). In addition, the copy in the posts clearly does not belong to them and looks hilariously out of place on their website. I’ll take small victories where I can find them

Yep, it is beyond annoying - when I started I thought they were real comments, and allowed them in, like a moron.
Plus, I am getting porn sites trying to wiggle a comment in - nice try, jerks. Like we cannot recognize http that reads ‘viagrahrdon’.
Attack away in anyway you can - it staves them off for a while.
Now I am going to go get my fix from your latest video - an epileptic fit might give me some energy.
Or the rolling and flailing on the ground might pick up some of the packing materials strewn about!
Whatever - I must watch it, warnings be damned!
I accept no imitators, oh High Priestess…..

Woohoo hi Kelly
Wanna hear something interesting. Someone stole THIS whole post. Hilarious, no?
The fact that there are now three active links to my site (including my name/ full web address) is really going to sting the people who set up the sites to automatically steal my stuff.
I am thinking of doing a weekly column called ‘Websites Who Stole From Me This Week’ with print screens of the stolen content - a name and shame of sorts.
That oughta be fun!
Me neither - you are truly original

Hahahah I am SO stealing this post!!!!
Kidding!
Seriously: I do believe many of these sites were computer generated, programmed automatically to “pull” content from the blogosphere with key words. Meaning, they’re just robots. I checked Technorati and these sites are new and have an authority of “1″ (lowest of the low). The sites also appear to lack any human touch whatsoever.
Why would anyone bother? Notice most of these (boring, yawn) sites support advertisements. They probably (I’m just guessing here) earn ad revenue every time someone clicks.
I’m going to use your tactics though. Heh.

Glad to hear that you are taking my advice. When you start tagging your posts in this way, and other websites try to steal them, it is hilariously obvious that the content is not theirs
P.S. As you pointed out, yes, these websites 90% of the time are set up to generate ad revenue. Don’t let them make money off your hard work.
P.P.S Thanks for the shout out on your website. I noticed you turned off your comments cos of that numpty hassling you… fair enough, but don’t let someone bully/ harass you into not blogging anymore. Report them, ban them and keep writing
