Inappropriate Things That Happened At My Old Work [Part 2: Personal Attacks]
April 13, 2008 by iamthelostgirl
I’ve been thinking a lot lately about some of the things that happened at my old place of work [Read this post ONLY on TheLostGirl’s Blog Website]. It was such a different company culture to the one I am in now. My new workplace is so happy and positive. Very different to my last job (puts away claws).
I am starting a new segment that I will be adding to on a regular basis called, literally, ”Inappropriate Things That Happened At My Old Work”. I am just going to wax lyrical ad infinitum, about some things that went on around me/ how inappropriate they were in retrospect.
STORY 2 - PERSONAL ATTACKS
Another situation that often made me feel uncomfortable, was the way my 121 meetings were carried out.
My manager let it be known from early on that I was essentially being groomed to take her place when she moved sideways into another position… because of this she was going to be harder on me.
I was expecting my time at my old company to be hard, but toward the end, some things were exceptionally unbearable, one of those being my weekly 121 meetings.
The premise was always the same; bring in some notes on what you had been up to that week; update the manager on recent projects; let them know what was going on with certain deadlines.
Now, that’s fairly standard, or so I gather.
However, what was not standard was the personal attacks I suffered. In lieu of discussing work, some meetings were almost entirely based around bashing me (NOT literally, LOL). I was repeatedly told about different aspects of my character and personality; how negative and bad they were; any way they negatively effected my job.
This psychoanalysis was most certainly not carried out on anyone else. I personally found it exhausting. I was told what people in the office had been saying about me behind my back that week; what my old manager had been saying about me behind my back to her superiors that week; conversations she had heard me have and what was ‘wrong’ with them, etc. etc. etc.
I found this level of personal scrutiny horrifying. It’s pretty much my worst nightmare. I take a while to build confidence and am easily hurt personally and personally offended if a negative comment is made about my character.
Has anyone else ever had regular meetings like this… that were admittedly meant to toughen them up, and make them fit better into company culture (with no luck)???

ZZzzZZ Maybe they were trying to tell you the devil was in the details.
Cry baby.
Sup - you my darling a very special kind of idiot. My favourite kind in fact….
Yawn
Maybe indeed… what they didn’t need to do in the process is BULLY, which is what you are trying and failing to do.
Hardly, I am many things but a winger, no.
I only write my thoughts, opinions and the truth as I see it. My real commenter’s have brains and do not usually shit all over my philosophies, so why would I change radically?
Eds Note: this idiot really did call them self KUNT!
As an aside - I would like to reiterate that I never delete a comment from someone who disagrees with a post. I do however reserve the right to call them a dimwit and a stupid arsehole for bothering write this unimaginative, school yard-bullshit in the first place. Why claim to hate a site, yet read two whole posts and take the time to comment?
